The Wiener Dog Derby, presented by Ovintiv, is a fun-filled annual event held at The Horses @ Evergreen Park at J.D.A. Raceway in Grande Prairie. This unique event replaces the pounding of hooves with the pitter-patter of paws, featuring small-breed dogs, mostly dachshunds, competing in exciting heats leading to a championship final.
In addition to the races, there’s a dog costume contest, giving pups a chance to show off their personality and creativity. The dog races are scheduled between the thoroughbred pari-mutuel races, making for a lively and entertaining day for the entire family.
The Wiener Dog Derby is typically held in July, with the official 2026 date to be announced alongside the release of The Horses @ Evergreen Park racing schedule.
